Are you considering Dental Bonding?
Dental Bonding is often used to improve the appearance of your teeth and enhance your smile. As the name indicates, composite material is bonded to an existing tooth. Unlike porcelain veneers or dental crowns, composite bonding removes little, if any, of the original tooth.
What is Dental Bonding Used For?
Bonding is typically used for cosmetic purposes:
• To repair decayed teeth (composite resins are used to fill cavities)
• To repair chipped or cracked teeth
• To improve the appearance of discolored teeth
• To close spaces between teeth
• To make teeth look longer
• To change the shape of teeth
• As a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings
• To protect a portion of the tooth’s root that has been exposed when gums recede
Dental Bonding Procedure
Dental bonding takes little to no preparation, and the use of anesthesia is often not necessary unless the bonding is being used to fill a decayed tooth. The dentist at Rdent will match the shade of your existing teeth to select a composite resin colour that will closely match the colour of your tooth.
How Long Does Bonding Material Last?
The lifespan of bonding materials for the teeth depends on how much bonding was done and your oral habits. Typically, however, bonding material lasts from three years up to about 10 years before needing to be touched up or replaced.
Dental Bonding – Before & After
Teeth Bonding Consultation
A consultation with your dentist will determine what dental problems can be solved with bonding. At Rdent we will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth that may involve x-rays and an evaluation of your teeth and gums. During your consultation, we will discuss if you are a candidate for the cosmetic problems that bonding can resolve, such as decayed teeth, cracked or chipped teeth, gaps, tooth discoloration, “short teeth,” and more. If you have teeth that are extensively damaged we may recommend other restorative or cosmetic procedures that meet more long-term goals.
